Studies on the Reduction of SO2 Injury to Hibiscus syriacus L. by Use of Growth Regulant , CCC .

Abstract
Hibiscus syriacus plants (cultivar Saehan and Dansim) were foliar sprayed with varied levels of (2-chloroethyl) trimethyl amonium chloride (Cycocel, CCC, chlormequat) in order to investigate their growth and flowering responses and to evaluate the amount of protection from sulfur dioxide (SO©ü) injury.
CCC reduced the plant height, shoot length, internode length and leaf enlargement. while number of flowers per shoot and flowering time were not affected. The number of stomata per unit leaf area was increased whereas the stomatal pore sizes were unaffected by CCC treatment. Control plants exhibited very severe damage from SO©ü gas fumigation and on 30th day after fumigation there were a larger fallen leaves, but the CCC treated plants exhibited only slight damage and there were few fallen leaves.
